Today we celebrate another year passed since Victory in Europe! 🇬🇧 We also give thought to this being another year celebrated during Covid.
This is an important event to mark for many of our residents! Even the reminiscence sessions and singing the war time classics can bring back the feeling of pride and unity of our Kingdom and the hard working people in it!
With that in mind we want to take this time to reflect on the difficulties of the last year and thank the hard working staff at The Chocolate Works and other Key Workers, who have tirelessly and selflessly gave their love and devotion to the residents despite the struggles of the pandemic. Often the residents draw parallels between the both and the say how much they appreciate all the staff and sympathise with an abrupt change in lifestyle (to say the least)! Unity and care will see us through! ❤️
Gardening group! Pictures taken from our Minster Community Garden Terrace and Riverside Community lovely indoor garden.
With the greatness of modern technology, we can relax listening to gentle nature sounds and bird songs while sitting in the Riverside indoor garden. 🐦🎶
The Best Dressed Staff for France Day undoubtedly has to go to Dave, our Deputy Manager! 🇫🇷 Enjoy your fruity French prize!🍷
With our Wellbeing Team doing a great Mime trio dress up in close second! 😊 Thank you to all the staff bringing a smile... and a laugh to the residents faces with your fancy dress!
We had our 4th Springfield Passport Day on Tuesday, this time we were away in France! We had fun, stuffed our belly and heard lots of heartfelt memories of the residents trips.. and even younger lives in France. Many residents to the opportunity to chat to eachother in French 😮
The food went down a treat.. no snails though! 🍲

Doesn't the sun make everything better!
We had a lovely day at the Chocolate Works today, with 3 exercise classes! We made our own fresh bread, enjoyed the sunshine on the Garden Terrace and some residents took a stroll down to the Peace Garden ☀️
We are very grateful to be able to have activities even in smaller groups, this makes it more safe for the residents but also person centered and specific to each residents needs. The Wellbeing Team really have loved the 1-1 opportunities smaller groups have created.
We just wanted to highlight the attention to detail from our wonderful Kitchen team! 🧡
They do an amazing job and strive to create a marvelous atmosphere for the residents mealtimes and afternoon tea every day! This extends to the serving trays for residents that like to enjoy their meals in their rooms.
We appreciate that small details make such a big impact on the every day experience for our residents!
Thank you very much to The Deathly Dark Tours, for the brilliant walking tour of York!
The residents really enjoyed virtually exploring York, as it's been quite some time, they were happy to see streets like Whip-ma-wop-ma-gate and the The Bar Walls of York once again 🙂 And learn the grizzly tales of days gone by.
Yesterday was the anniversary of the hanging of the infamous highway man Dick Turpin, who was famously hung on the Knavesmire! We learnt that the platform is still there to this day!
Grab Your Passport! day today and residents at Chocolate Works Care Village have enjoyed their virtual trip to the Caribbean!! Thank you to our amazing team who have done a fabulous job in preparing for today and decorating all communities today to make it extra special for resident. Happy Mothers Day!
The ladies reminisced about the lives as a mother, grandparent and even Great grandparent! They had a ladies afternoon tea, chatting about the now "vintage" Silver Cross pram, Jones sewing machine and sewing patterns.
We asked them what their best advice for a new mother would be.. "Hug them as much as you can" "Don't panic" were a couple of the favourites.
Thank you so much to Faye who kindly donated her vintage sewing machine, which belonged to her grandmother. We always welcome any vintage items, to reminisce over and spark old memories for residents with Dementia.
We celebrated Employee Appreciation Day by holding a staff giveaway with three prizes up for grabs. We asked colleagues to nominate one another and from these nominations, winners were selected at random.
Congratulations to our winners ...
